With 2014 quickly drawing to a close (but seriously, wasn’t it only NYE and Easter a couple of months ago :|) I thought a little reminiscing would be nice to see just what I have accomplished in 2014 and what were some of my personal highlights. In 2014 I was fortunate enough to already be in the U.S.A. on January 1st, visit Cancun in Mexico, head back to the states a few months later, explore locally in Brisbane and a visit a little further north in Cairns, Australia. I’m incredibly proud and lucky to have experienced as much as I have this year!
So of all the places I visited, the amazing sites and landmarks I saw, food I ate, people I met and incredible experiences, what has made my 7 travel highlights for 2014? Keep reading to find out:-
7. Snorkelling at Green Island, Cairns
Whilst only a little over an hours flight away from my home on the Gold Coast, visiting Green Island in Cairns was a beautiful and relaxing experience of the year. Snorkelling along the Great Barrier reef was relaxing and absolutely beautiful.
6. Visiting the Air & Space Museum, Washington D.C.
Admittedly, I’m a little bit of an aviation geek with Air Crash Investigations ranking highly on my list of favourite television shows. So when I found out that one of the Smithsonian museums was an Air & Space Museum I had to go. Walking inside a rocket was definitely a highlight, piloting in a small flight simulator (sorry Ange for not realising I was steering after 3 simultaneous 360 degree loops… oops) was so much fun and seeing so many different air craft, this was one museum that I loved!
5. Visiting the Ellen DeGeneres Show set, Los Angeles
Even though I knew the great lady herself wasn’t inside, stepping foot inside Stage 1 onto the set of the Ellen DeGeneres show was a massive moment. Dancing on the stairs just like her was the icing on the cake.
4. Swimming with dolphins, Cancun
I’ve always wanted to do this, but never really considered where or how I would do it until the opportunity was presented to me whilst looking up activities at my hotel in Cancun. A short cab ride away and I was at Dolphinaris swimming and doing tricks with Pablo the dolphin. Such incredible animals and so much fun.
3. World of Color show, California Adventure Park
Disney really don’t half do anything. Stepping foot into the theme park is incredible itself, let alone the rides, food, souvenirs and characters. But then, night falls and this place really does feel magical when World Of Color begins with its Disney soundtrack and water show. Amazing!
2. Bellagio Fountain, Las Vegas
Visiting the Bellagio Fountain in Las Vegas has always been a major item on my bucket list after watching Oceans 11 (particularly the final scene when they all gather at the fountain and walk away one by one) when I was younger. Finally being able to watch the incredible fountain (multiple times because I was there, I wasn’t going to just watch once and walk away!) was one of the biggest highlights of not only my trip, but my year!
1. New Years Eve in Times Square, New York
This is one night that I will never forget. Experiencing a wintery New Years Eve, not just overseas, but in the hustle and bustle of Times Square in New York is going to be incredibly difficult to beat. Cheesy NYE headbands and flashing lights, american food, champagne and seeing the ball drop are what makes this night so spectacular. I loved every minute of it!
I can’t wait to see what 2015 has in store, with one adventure already booked and many more to come! Thanks for being a part of my journey so far and sharing these incredible experience with me. 🙂
