My 7 Favourite Christmas Films

Christmas is only 1 week way!!! I know right, crazy! This year has flown by at a ridiculous speed. Christmas is such a fun and happy time of year spent celebrating with friends and family. I’m currently watching one of my favourite Christmas films and thought that since it’s close to the big day itself I’d share with you my absolute favourite Christmas related films to get you all into the festive spirit.

7 films… 7 nights until Christmas… Perfect!:-

   1. The Grinch – 2000

“The, The, The… The Grinch!”

My all time favourite Christmas movie. I still recall going to see this movie for our end of year break up at school in year 4. This is one of my favourite Christmas films ever and it’s so cleverly made. I’ve seen part of the Whoville set at Universal Studios and the amount of detail that went into this film is remarkable. This film is heartwarming and great for the whole family to watch.

   2. Elf – 2003

“I just like to smile. Smiling’s my favourite”

One of the most adorable Christmas movies, Will Ferrell is the perfect Elf! This movie follows the life of Buddy and his journey to learning about being a human and not the elf he was raised to be. He ventures to New York to find his father and it becomes apparent that Buddy is a little different to everyone else.

   3. Love Actually – 2003

“So if you really love Christmas… come on and let it snow”

This movie has made it onto this list for a number of reasons. Firstly, it stars a whole heap of big name celebs who all do a fantastic job (Hugh Grant in this film is what makes it for me). Secondly, it makes reference to one of my all time favourite boy bands Blue multiple times (although they themselves sadly do not appear). Thirdly, it captures London in its christmas glory following the lives of multiple people over Christmas all for different reasons.

   4. The Holiday – 2006

“It’s Christmas Eve and we are going to celebrate being young and being alive!”

Starring some of my favourite actors and actresses including Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Jack Black and Kate Winslet, this film is one of my all time favourites. Following the lives of 4 very different people who have all somehow come together over Christmas in the U.K. and L.A. This is a great romantic comedy that I definitely recommend.

   5. The Santa Claus – 1994

“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night”

Luckily, they have made 2 sequels for this fantastic Christmas film. Starring the hilarious Tim Allen and his quest to becoming Santa Claus after a freak accident and him accidentally inheriting the role. This film is a classic Christmas film and is a combination of heartwarming and hilarious.

   6. Home Alone – 1990

“Bless this highly nutritious microwavable macaroni and cheese dinner and the people who sold it on sale. Amen.”

After a christmas wish comes true, Kevin finds himself home alone over Christmas tricking burglars and dealing with his neighbour all whilst his family try to return home so he isn’t alone. This is a Christmas must watch and with another 2 sequels, theres plenty more where that came from.

   7. A Christmas Carol – 2009

“I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year”

It’s the classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge and his grumpy, selfish ways leading him to quite an eye-opening experience on Christmas Eve in London. Visited by 3 ghosts: Ghost of Christmas Past, Ghost of Christmas Present and Ghost of Christmas yet to come, Scrooge is taken through a series of adventures by each demonstrating the true meaning of Christmas and helping Scrooge change his selfish, greedy ways. Jim Carey is, as always, hilarious and this is a Christmas tale classic.
